IWABUCHI TRAINING CLINIC




Welcome Dinner

The UWA Judo Club is hosting a Welcome Dinner on the Friday night. Clinic participants are welcome to attend and join UWA Judo Club members in honoring special huest coach Koichi Iwabuchi.

Date: Friday 2 December 2011
Time: 7.00pm to 10.00pm
Venue: UWA Watersports & Leadership Centre, Hackett Drive, Crawley
Cost: $45 per person (cash bar available)

Iwabuchi Judo Training Clinic

As part of the ongoing International Judo Exchange Program between Kokushikan University Judo Club and the UWA Judo Club, the UWA Sport and Recreation Association and the UWA Judo Club will host the Iwabuchi Judo Training Clinic including a series of sessions running from 1-5 December. All judo players are invited to attend one or more sessions.

This clinic caters for novice and advanced Judo practitioners and introduces students to the training methods used at Kokushikan University Judo Club, one of Japan's most successful judo clubs.

Special Guest Coach

The clinic will be instructed by Iwabuchi Sensei (7th Dan), the senior Judo instructor from the famous Kokushikan University/High School Judo Club, Tokyo. Iwabuchi Sensei is a graduate of the Kokushikan University Department of Physical Education and has been a lecturer and coach instructor at Kokushikan University Senior High School for nearly 40 years.

Clinic Content

Iwabuchi Sensei has created a unique style of Kokushikan Judo techniques including sophisticated systems of gripping and combinations of throwing and ground fighting techniques. He will teach some of these techniques to students over the clinic sessions.

OCTOBER 2011

Congratulations to our UWA Judo Team that recently competed at the Uni Games held on the Gold Coast. UWA won a silver in the teams competition and finished third overall. A fantastic effort by the team!

Judo Introduction Courses

Over the last two weeks UWA Judo members, Yudai, Sae, Andy, Peter Swan and Kai have spent 9 hours doing Judo Introduction Courses for UWA Kids in Sport  ( 50 ) and the UWA Phys-Ed students. ( 172 )

I would like to thanks these club members for their time and effort to bring Judo to a greater audience.

The Club would like to thank Jay-lee from UWA Sport for putting Judo forward into the program and again thank and acknowledge the continued support from the UWA Sports and Recreation.











APRIL 2011

The UWA Judo Club Hosted The 2011 JWA Judo Championships

MARCH 2011

An introduction to Judo course will be held on the 19th March for new students and past Judoka wanting to easy there way back into training. The workshop will be run under the guidance of our Japanese coaches.

FEBRUARY 2011

Yudai Iwabuchi and Sae Nakazawa have joined the UWA Judo Club and will be teaching and training over the next two years. Yudai has been coaching judo at The Kodokan in Japan and Sae is a former All Japan Champion and World Silver Medallist




DECEMBER 2010



Congratulations to Morgan who recently traveled to Melbourne to compete in the Pan Pacific BJJ Championships. Morgan won both the gi and non gi under 62kg divisions.

OCTOBER 2010

World Championship Juniors - Agadir

Darcina and Lee competed in the Junior World Titles in Morocco this month.

Darcina won her first fight against the European , Bronze medalist, Hungarian Katinka Szabo.

Lee won against Tunya Ofuji of Japan and then he beat Gert Naes of Belgium; U20 European Champion.

MARCH 2010

JAPAN TRIP UPDATE

20 members of the UWA Judo club, experienced 15 days of Judo practice and cultural exchange in Japan in March 2010.  Club members where hosted by Komazawa University and High School.

The Komozawa and UWA Judo exchanged started in 1989 when UWA Judo members, Stockley Davis and Peter Swan met with Tsuboi Sensei of Komozawa.  The exchange, now in its 21st year, has developed international respect and understanding through the practice of the Olympic sport of Judo. This year’s exchange included home stays, Judo practice, a night at the Nikko Onsen and a visit to the fort and temples of the first Japanese Shogun.

FEBRUARY 2010

UWA Judoka Perform Strongly At ACT Open

Four UWA Judoka with coach Alex Da Silva travelled to Canberra to compete in the ACT Judo Open on the 13th and 14th of February 2010. Darcina, Kai, Lee and Ollie all performed strongly.

 Darcina won a silver medal in the Young Women’s U/57kg division and also bronze in the Women’s U/57kg division.

Lee won a silver medal in the Young Men’s U/60kg division and also a bronze medal in the Men’s U/60kg division

Kai won a gold medal in the Cadet U/50kg division

Darcina Manuel competed in the NSW Judo International open for Western Australia on the 12th and 13th of September 2009. She entered in two categories in the under 57kg for the Young Women’s and Senior Women’s and won gold in both categories.
Darcina would like to thank the coaches and players from UWA Judo club who were involved in her preparation for this tournament and also Mr. Richard Davies from the combat shop in Osborne Park for his sponsorship. Also special thanks to Mr. Peter Middleton from Judo International for being there as her mat side coach and to all his players and supporters who were there, a special note to Tanya thank you very much. Lastly a big thank you to Mr. Adam Metcalf from the Academy of Mixed Martial arts Mirrabooka and Mr. Chris Lee and his family who also contributed in helping in Darcina’s achievement.






Furong Judo Club visit










AUGUST 2009


In December 2009 as part of the 2009 Indian Rim Asian University Games, UWA Judo Club will be hosting Sensei Katsuhiko Kashiwazaki and Sensei Taka Nakajima along with a Judo Team from Tokyo University from the 6th to the 19th of December.

On September the 12th, UWA Judo Club will be hosting The UWA Judo Club Open. More details to follow.

From September the 4th to 6th, UWA Judo Club will be hosting 4 Judoka from Fu Rong Judo Club Beijing.

Thanks to Phil, Andre, Darcina and the Manuel Family for doing a great demonstration of Judo at  UWA’s Open Day, on Sunday the 9th of August.

Peter Swan held Junior and Youth gradings over the 8th and 9th of August. Congratulations to the 36 juniors and 8 youth members who moved up to their next grade. 


JUNE 2009

Congratulations to Robert and Kai. They  represented our club and the state at The Australian Judo Championships, with Robert winning a bronze medal and Kai finishing 5th. The championships were held in Canberra from the 6th to the 8th of June.

Darcina competed in The Auckland International Open, New Zealand on the 2nd and the 3rd of May 2009. 14 countries competed in the tournament. Darcina entered in 3 categories, U57kgs intermediate women’s, U57kgs young women’s and U57kgs senior women’s division. She won gold in each division, beating one of the top Australian players in the senior women’s final in under 30 seconds!

Darcina said that the competition was a really tough and that nobody gave her an inch. She would like to thank all the coaches from the UWA Judo club and also Peter Middleton from Judo International for her preparation. Darcina appreciated all the support that she recieved while she was away.


MARCH 2009


On Saturday the 28th of March the WA State Championship were held at our club. UWA Judo Club Judoka performed very well winning many medals. Congratulations to Darcina, Ollie, Robert and Kai for making the State Judo Squad.

Darcina competed in the ACT Open, winning a silver medal in the young womens under 57kg narrowly losing to Molly Dabner in the final. She also won a bronze medal in the senior womens under 57kg, beating Kate Bell the top seed and going to golden score with the eventual winner Emily Bensted. A big thank you to Peter Middleton from Judo International for coaching Darcina at the competition.
